Will Brinson

Will Brinson blogs for a living. Chortle away and make jokes about his mom's basement all you want, jerkstore, but he's managed to play basketball with LeBron James and ride around Lowe's Motor Speedway with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. So, yeah, it's worked out alright. Or something.

And Now, The Most Impressive 74-Year-Old Football Fan Ever

(ED Note: Yes, she's 71. Sorry. Long story but the headline is FUBAR)

Carol Walden is my new favorite old person (outside of my grandparents -- don't worry mom and dad, you're not there ... yet). Why? Because she's a badass, that's why. And she's a huge football fan; both of which are evidenced by her recent refusal to leave an Iowa game despite suffering a broken hip during halftime.

"I was hurrying back because halftime was over and I slipped in the kitchen and fell flat on my left side," said Carol Walden.

"The doctor said you better get into the hospital and I said ok. My husband said well let's go and I said no I have to see the Hawkeyes win," said Walden.

"By that time the hawks were catching up so we had to watch the end of the game," said Carol's husband, Don Walden.

So, to clarify, in case you don't understand Social Security Speak, Walden was told by doctors at the game to leave because she busted ass and needed to go to the hospital. She politely told them to get bent because, well, Iowa was playing, and she doesn't miss Iowa games.

And to top it all off, she made her husband, not the paramedics, drive her to the hospital ... so she could listen to the postgame show on the radio. Just so we're clear: if this were, like, say, one of my friends at an NC State game, they would leave in a heartbeat. In fact, if it were me, I'd probably accept the driving services of the medical personnel and agree to bounce out of there. But not this "little old lady" who lives and breathes college football. No, sir. She stayed.

So, yeah, Carol Walden: the greatest 74-year-old college football fan in the history of football.

Close, but not quite. She wasn't at the football game in Madison, she was at home in Mt. Vernon. As evidenced by the quote, "I slipped in the kitchen." So yes, it's a great story, but not quite as dramatic as staying at the stadium.
