When the Kansas Jayhawks had that little rubble-rabble a week ago between the football and basketball team, there was a lot of discussion about it just being "boys being boys." Media in Kansas City, an hour away from Lawrence, mostly made excuses and referenced the fact that young kids do stupid things, but it's no big deal. Some workouts, some condemnation, some slaps on the wrist, some wind sprints, no big deal. No one was hurt, right?
Well, maybe not so much. Via the Kansas City Pitch, the Lawrence Journal-World reports today that the fights that broke out at various unions escalated to gun threats, and were connected to an earlier assault and battery two months prior. Rock Chalk, Legal Talk.
Apparently at the second incident the night of the fights, which took place outside of Jayhawker Towers, a man named Guy Lipscomb, 19, threatened a current and former track athlete with a gun. The female victims of that threat were also involved in an assault and battery in July.
And here's where it gets interesting. On July 25th, the threat victim was assaulted by Andrea Johnson, 25. Johnson was charged with misdemeanor battery. In that incident, there were at least two witnesses. One was the other victim of the gun threat. The other? Mario Chalmers, point guard for the Miami Heat, former Kansas Jayhawk, and an individual who's had a storm of controversy surround him before and after nailing the salvation shot for KU that helped them win the NCAA championship. Chalmers has a child with Johnson.
So just to wrap up. Multiple fights break out at KU (check out the video at the Lawrence Journal-World) involving football and basketball players. The events are linked to a gun threat and an assault and battery months earlier. Dezmon Briscoe was involved (but not a participant). Tyshon Taylor was a participant. And Mario Chalmers was involved.
There's been no determination as of yet as to which team is the Jets and which team is the Sharks. (*snap, *snap)
